The previous version of the 1080 received mixed reviews on the cushioning and fit. Some people said it was a little too firm and others felt the fit wasn't quite dialed in. To enhance the ride of the 1080 v9, New Balance completely redesigned the midsole to be softer than ever. Additionally, they added more foam making it even better for your long runs and recovery days.
By adding a more premium mesh and reducing overlays, designers were able to fix the fit while enhancing comfort. This mesh should do a better job supporting your foot while providing the luxurious experience you expect from a premium price point running shoe. In the heel, they used a super soft padded nylon to help lock your foot in place and keep your heel from slipping.
Finally, the 1080 v9 features a similarly blown rubber outsole. However, they increased the number of flex grooves from two to five for an even more flexible ride.
